What is a Dental Emergency?
Dental emergencies can happen at any time, and we are here to help.
Not sure if you are experiencing a dental emergency? Here are some of the common dental emergencies that our dentists should treat right away. Call our dental clinic so we can schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
If you need immediate care, go to your nearest emergency room.
-
Lost Crowns
With proper care, dental crowns are designed to last a lifetime, but they can sometimes become loose. If this happens to you, don't worry. Simply call our office as soon as possible to request an appointment.
While waiting for your appointment, gently rinse your crown with warm water and store it in a safe container to bring to your visit. In many cases, your existing crown can be reattached, preventing the need for a replacement.
While it's ideal to have your crown fixed on the same day, we understand that this may not always be possible. If your exposed tooth is sensitive and causing discomfort, you can temporarily protect it with dental wax from a pharmacy to cover your tooth until your appointment.
-
Lost Fillings
If you experience a loose or misplaced dental filling, call us immediately to request an appointment. This dental restoration is designed to cover a hole created by a cavity, so if that hole is no longer covered, food and debris can become trapped. As a result, your tooth is susceptible to additional decay. This makes timely repair incredibly important.
You should keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side of your mouth until the filling can be replaced.
-
Chipped or Broken Teeth
If you have a broken or chipped tooth, look for any missing pieces, put them in a clean container, and take them to your appointment.
In some cases, your dentist may be able to reattach the piece. Regardless of whether the piece is found, be sure to call our office immediately to schedule a repair.
-
Knocked-Out Teeth
The sooner you seek treatment after a tooth is knocked out, the higher the chances your dentist will have of saving it. Be sure to call our office as soon as possible!
If you locate your knocked-out tooth, pick it up by the crown (the top part/chewing surface) and rinse it with warm water. If possible, try to place the tooth back into its socket and gently bite down to secure it in place.
If re-inserting the tooth isn't an option, store it in a container of milk and take it with you to your appointment. Should you feel pain, apply a cold compress to your cheek. If saving the tooth isn’t possible, we provide restorative solutions like dental bridges to replace it.
