Surgery to Restore Good Oral Health
Oral surgery refers to a range of treatments for issues involving the mouth, teeth, and jaw. Extensive tooth damage or decay, advanced gum disease, and traumatic injuries can require surgical intervention.
At Laurelwood Family Dentistry, we offer oral surgical procedures to help restore your smile and relieve any pain or discomfort you might be feeling.
We provide oral sedation, to help ensure that you feel comfortable and relaxed during your surgery. After surgery, you will receive medication to ease any soreness you might experience.
If you need a surgical procedure that requires general anesthesia, we will refer you to an oral surgeon in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.
Dental Implant Restorations
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that functions like a natural tooth root. When combined with a tooth replacement, such as a crown or bridge, it looks and feels much like a real tooth. Our team refers out for the surgical portion of the implant procedure. Once you have healed, you will return to our clinic, where our dentists will complete the restoration process.
Tooth Extractions
A tooth extraction is the removal of a decayed or damaged tooth. While saving a natural tooth is preferable, extraction may be necessary to maintain oral health if less invasive treatments will not be effective. After the procedure, your dentist may discuss replacement options with you. These might include crowns, bridges, or dentures to restore your smile.
Frenectomy
The frenum is a small piece of tissue that connects your cheeks, tongue or lips to your gums. We perform frenectomies on patients of all ages whose frenum restricts mouth and tongue movement. This is commonly referred to as tongue-tied, lip-tied or cheek-tied. The frenum can be surgically altered to increase the range of motion of your mouth or tongue.
